Vic: Uni students to get results as union ends ban
MELBOURNE, Dec 19 AAP - Students at the University of Melbourne will get an unexpected
Christmas bonus - their marks - after an education union lifted its ban on releasing their
results today.
The National Tertiary Education Union slapped the ban on the transmission of student
results during an industrial dispute with the university.
The university stood down some NTEU members after they refused to pass on results although
some university students held a protest in support of their teachers.
In a statement released today, the NTEU said it would lift the ban at 9am today, in
time for the students to get their results before Christmas.
The ban was blocking more than 3000 results, according to the NTEU.
"Our decision to lift the ban was to show our appreciation for the support from students
during the campaign and to illustrate the commitment of staff to their students," said
Dr Jeremy Moss, acting president of the NTEU University of Melbourne branch.
The union vowed to continue its industrial campaign next year with more strategic bans
and actions
