SA: Recovery of sunken abalone boat resumes this morning
A police operation to recover an abalone fishing boat which sank off the South Australian
coast has resumed this morning after being interrupted yesterday by bad weather.
Police hope to raise the boat to provide evidence about the disappearance of a fisherman
last November.
A police spokeswoman said police would attempt the recovery this morning if the sunken
boat was located quickly and weather conditions were favourable.
The fisherman, 47-year-old DANNY THORPE of Port Lincoln, disappeared after the boat
overturned about 15 kilometres off Ceduna on November 21.
When the search for him was called off three days later, it was feared he had drowned
or been taken by a shark.
His friend, 44-year-old HOWARD RODD, survived by paddling to shore clinging to an esky lid.
