`Midwives' in midlife Spacek immerses herself in made-for-cable movie

PASADENA, Calif. Sissy Spacek looks unconcerned when thephotographer points out that her soft, wispy, ginger-colored bangsare shadowing her eye.

Don't they always? Her casual coif flops around a face that isboth elfin and prairie pioneer; a face that for nearly 30 years hasgrabbed a full share of screen time without ever resorting to vanity.

Texas-born and now 51, Spacek lives in Virginia. But recently shecame to a Pasadena hotel to promote "Midwives," the 100th originalLifetime movie. It airs Monday, April 2 (9-11 p.m. EST), on thechannel that bills itself as "Television for Women."
