Fed: Communities can run hospitals 'better than bureaucrats'

Health Minister TONY ABBOTT says the federal takeover of a Tasmanian hospital could
be expanded .. if it works.

He says the government wants to see if the takeover of the Mersey Hospital is successful
before trying it elsewhere.

Mr ABBOTT has told the Nine network the federal government isn't going to turn the
system upside down in pursuit of power .. or in pursuit of a theory.

He's attacked Labor's health plan .. which potentially includes a federal takeover
if reforms can't be agreed with the states.
